4 BANK FOR INTERNATIONAL SETTLEMENTS
(BIS) (Банк международных расчетов (БМР)) Международный банк, первоначально учрежденный в 1930 г. для координирования платежей военных репараций между европейскими центральными банками. С БМР, штаб-квартира которого находится в Базеле, связывались надежды на превращение его в Европейский центральный банк, однако после Второй мировой войны многие из его функций перешли к Международному валютному фонду (International Monetary Fund). С тех пор БМР действовал в качестве попечителя и агента различных международных организаций, таких, как ОЭСР, Европейское валютное соглашение и т.д. Частые собрания директоров БМР стали эффективным средством сотрудничества центральных банков, особенно в предотвращении краткосрочных валютных спекуляций. С 1986 г. БМР действует как клиринговая палата для межбанковских операций, проводимых в европейских валютных единицах (Ewopean Currency Units). МБР также устанавливает для банков европейских стран коэффициенты достаточности собственного капитала (capital adequacy rations). Первоначально членами БМР были Франция, Бельгия, Западная Германия, Италия и Великобритания, однако сейчас в нем представлены центральные банки большинства европейских стран, а также США, Канады и Японии.
